The Commodore (CBM) Hacker's Mail List

Note: I am not the 'owner' of this mailing list and only present this
page to those unable to find information about it.

WHAT IS A MAIL LIST:

A "Mail List" is an open discussion fourm utilizing the internet's E-Mail
system. People who are 'joined' to mail lists e-mail messages to a central
computer (a list-server) which automatically distributes responses to the
other members of the list. It is similar to the Internet's Newsgroups but it
1) does not involve the newsgroup system, 2)does not require a special
program (beyond your e-mail program) to get/send messages, 3) is usually
more on-topic and spam-free than newsgroups.

WHAT IS THE CBM HACKER'S MAIL LIST:

The CBM Hacker's mail list essentially delves into the technical aspects
of the Commodore line of 8-Bit computer systems, from the PET up to the
Commodore 65. Most of the discussion is on programming aspects with some
concentrating on hardware and interfacing. People involved in the coding
of Commodore 8-bit emulators, data conversion, demos and utilities are
on the list. Much of the discussion is on gathering information on
the technical aspects of our computers for emulation or use of newly aquired
classic equipment or sharing code and concepts to improve the ueability of our
machines.

The list was originally described as:

  C64-HACKERS -- A group for C64 code fans -- emulator writers, etc.
                 (code writers forum)

JOINING THE CBM-HACKERS MAILING LIST:

In order to join the CBM hacker's mail list you need to send a "subscribe"
command to the computer that manages the maillist. The address to send
this command to is:

   cbm-hackers-request@dot.tcm.hut.fi

Anything can be in the subject but the message MUST contain this line:

   subscribe cbm-hackers [real name]

Replace [real name] with your Real Name (i.e. Larry Anderson), the mail
list manager will get your e-mail address off of the message header, so you
don't need to include it (or anything else for that matter as any non-command
lines are not processed by the list server. (do not include any extra words
such as, please, dear sir, thank you ,etc., the computer won't understand
them.)

Once you are subscribed messages mailed to the mail list
(cbm-hackers@dot.tcm.hut.fi) will be distributed to all the members subscribed
to the mail list. Replies are sent also to cbm-hackers@dot.tcm.hut.fi, which
are also distributed.
