CLASS Presentations & Guests

David Pleasance

David returns virtually to CLASS! As a former executive for Commodore U.K., David knows all the details of the company in those days. He is back to talk about his upcoming books and his new, worldwide Amiga initiative, the Amiga Global Alliance!

Paul Gardner-Stephen

The father of the Mega65 (Commodore 65 replica) will talk with us on Saturday afternoon. Videochatting from Adelaide, SA, Australia, (18 1/2 hours ahead of California!), Paul will tell about the Mega65's development and its future.

Matthew Arnold Stern

Matthew talks about his novel, “Amiga,” in which the heroine must solve her personal problems with the help of the computer that changed her life, the Amiga!

Matthew Arnold Stern is a novelist, public speaker, and technical writer. His novel, “Amiga,” was inspired by his experiences in the Commodore world in the 1980s. He wrote for several magazines at the time, including RUN and Family Computing. See Matthew's site at https://www.matthewarnoldstern.com/amiga.html

Living in the Commodore World

(Featuring GEOS, Studio 64, and Commodore Magazines)

Matthew Arnold Stern (see above) shares his experiences working in the Commodore world as a technical writer and computer journalist. He will talk about EnTech’s music software, Studio 64, and about GEOS which he examined for RUN magazine.

Hottest Technology Using a Commodore 128

In this secretly-kept presentation, veteran CommVEX and CLASS presenter Richard Goedeken will show off the hottest technology in computer science with the use of a Commodore 128!

Richard says, “I'll have a C128 running a terminal program, communicating over an RS232 port with an embedded computer called an ESP32 running on a tiny circuit board powered by a lithium-ion battery. The ESP32 is running custom software that I wrote, which connects to the internet via an 802.11n wireless network which will be hosted by my cell phone, and bridged to the T-mobile 5G wireless network. The ESP32 presents a simple chat interface to the C128 user over the serial port, whereby queries are collected from the user and transmitted to…[the secret hottest technology]”

The technology is revealed… it is ChatGPT, artificial intelligence!

More Bible Games for the C64

Due to financial and serious health problems, Lenard Roach cannot return to CLASS to present more religious games. However, Robert Bernardo will do the presentation.

These classic games run the gamut from trivia to dungeon crawlers to shoot'em ups! A quote from Lenard,

“The CLASS 2023 Commodore computer show is on! Slated for April 15th and 16th in Burbank, California, this show's theme is gaming, of which I will be presenting even more Christian-themed games for the Commodore 64. I need to thank those users of the machine from around the world who have participated in scouring the internet as well as their own personal collections to get me long forgotten Christian software for the C64. Last year I was crying that only one source of Christian software was available for the machine, but now I have been proven OH SO WRONG as dozens of programs have come in both to the Fresno (California) Commodore User Group and myself. I am trying to compile these programs into .D64 images as well as physical 5.25 disks for anyone who wants to surprise their church with long ago lost software to amaze and challenge their Sunday School classes.”

Converting Amiga .ADFs to Real Disks

Mario Luppi will show attendees the art of taking .ADFs downloaded from a PC and converting them (with the use of Amiga Explorer) to real disks that can be used on Amiga computers. (Delayed until CLASS 2024)

Latest Demos for the Classic Amiga

On Saturday and Sunday, Richard Goedeken will show off the latest 2021 and 2022 demos for classic Amiga computers.

Creating a Game on the C128

CLASS will have a class! Commodore Business Machines veteran and Scala developer Marc Rifkin will teach a session in programming to attendees, the object of which is to program an 80-column game in BASIC 7.0 for the Commodore 128.

The Ham Radio Experience and the Commodore 64

In a video presentation for CLASS, Roger Van Pelt, vice-president of the Fresno Commodore User Group, re-creates the experience of receiving ham radio messages, but instead of using a ham radio, he will stream the ham messages from a laptop computer into a C64 via a Kantronics interface.

Quick View of the Mega65

Robert Bernardo takes the CLASS attendees through a quick presentation on the Mega65, the Commodore 65 replica. He will go through MegaDisk #01 (M65 mode), MegaDisk #02 (M65 mode), and the c64.d81 (C64 mode of the M65). (Delayed until CLASS 2024)

How to Run an Amiga 2000 with 386 Bridgeboard and A-Max

Robert Bernardo briefly goes through the methods of using the various modes on this Amiga – Amiga (easy to use), PC (very DOS), and A-Max (gotta wait for those MAC ROMs to load).

The Making of the CLASS Commercial 2023

Any extra time?! Well, if we have that time, Robert Bernardo and Marc Rifkin will detail how the CLASS commercial 2023 was created, from the Lightwave animation scenes to filming Amiga engineer, R.J. Mical. Expect to see video bloopers from R.J.'s time in front of the camera! (Delayed until CLASS 2024)
